A BUSH THEATRE | BATH THEATRE ROYAL | TRAVERSE CO-PRODUCTION

A play by Catherine-Anne Toupin

DIRECTOR
Michael Boyd

SOUNDTRACK INFO
The soundtrack is a series of episodic piano fragments, woven throughout the production as intensely slow-paced repeated single piano notes, and at times as deliberate, exaggerated flourishes (often for comedy effect). The sound design is dominated by the sound effects of a crying baby from an unseen room, symbolising the play's ambiguously referenced themes of post-natal depression or the death of a child.

PERFORMANCE HISTORY
Premiered at Ustinov Studio, Bath Theatre Royal in February 2016, followed by runs at the Bush Theatre, London and Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh.

“as if this was not carefully enough constructed; as if Madeleine Girling’s Parisian design was not suitably elegant, Toupin’s script was not razor sharp, David Paul Jones’ sound design was not all encompassing and Boyd’s direction was not audacious enough.”
