David Paul Jones (DPJ) is a multi-award-winning, Edinburgh-based composer, songwriter, pianist and vocalist, with over thirty years experience as an independent solo artist and collaborator, throughout the UK and internationally. His scores blend contemporary classical sensibilities with digital sound, producing powerful and emotive themes and dreamlike, atmospheric soundworlds, ranging from solo piano music, songs and larger-scale vocal works, to soundtracks and sound designs for theatre and dance productions.

DPJ works with some of the leading theatre and dance companies in Scotland, including National Theatre Of Scotland, Curious Seed, Vanishing Point, Traverse, Raw Material and Dundee Rep. He has been a member of the Grid Iron creative team for over twenty years, composing music for many of their acclaimed site-specific productions. He is also often cast as an actor and voice-over artist.

He presents intimate live performances of his concert work, as a solo artist and with small string ensembles. His latest song-cycle, Lone Tree (2024), from the poetry of Kathleen Jamie, premiered at the Edinburgh International Book Festival ‘24. His independent work is supported by Creative Scotland.

DPJ is the recipient of the Glenfiddich Spirit Of Scotland Award For Music.
