DPJ’s creates theatre soundtracks for classic plays, stage adaptations of books, musicals, and contemporary devised works. Productions include The Maids (2017) and All My Sons (2019) for Dundee Rep; the stage adaptation of Andrew O’Hagan’s book, The Missing (2011) for the National Theatre Of Scotland, directed by John Tiffany; Michael Boyd’s acclaimed production, Right Now (2016) by French-Canadian playwright Catherine-Anne Toupin — a co-production with Traverse Theatre (Edinburgh), Theatre Royal (Bath) and the Bush Theatre (London); and the multi-award-winning Love Beyond (2023/25) — a Raw Material / Vanishing Point Co-Production directed by Matthew Lenton, which recently performed at the Hong Kong Arts Festival, prior to further worldwide touring in the autumn. DPJ has been a member of the Grid Iron creative team since 2003, productions include Barflies (2009/2012), from the writings of Charles Bukowski, and Muster Station: Leith (2022)an immersive, large-scale co-production with the Edinburgh International Festival, written and directed by Ben Harrison.

He has composed many soundtracks for theatre and dance productions for young audiences, including music for Imaginate’s Edinburgh International Children’s Festival; Catherine Wheels; Starcatchers; Lyra Theatre Company; Scottish Youth Dance, and Curious Seed. He also works closely with artists with mental and physical disabilities, including the critically-acclaimed musical, Castle Lennox (2023) by Linda McLean — a Lung Ha / Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh Co-Production.

Music for international theatre productions include The Story Of The Death Of Najib Brax (2005) by Hisham Jaber presented in Beirut by Grid Iron and a multinational company of artists from Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon and Syria; The Green Snake (2013) for the National Theatre Of China (Beijing) at the Hong Kong Festival and Butterfly (2014) at the Esplanade, Singapore. His new soundtrack for the forthcoming production Lear, written by Ramesh Meyyappan and directed by Orla O’Loughlin, will premiere at the Singapore International Festival of Arts in May 2025. His international portfolio extends to Creative Scotland and British Council supported projects and performances throughout Europe, South America, Middle East, South East Asia, USA and Australia.

Forthcoming productions include the soundtrack to Lear — a reimagining of Shakespeare’s King Lear by Ramesh Meyyappan, directed by Orla O’Loughlin, commissioned by Singapore International Festival of Arts and produced by Raw Material in association with National Theatre of Scotland. The production will premiere in Singapore, May 2025, followed by a UK tour.

Amongst the awards for his work are a Herald Angel for the children’s chamber opera , The Songbird (2010) at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Best Music & Sound for his soundtrack to Love Beyond (2023/25) from the 2023 Critics Awards For Theatre In Scotland.
